City Council

Buena Vista, Virginia

City Council is composed of seven members, six elected as general council members and an elected Mayor. Click here to see the entire council.

The Mayor serves a two-year term and each council member is elected for a four-year term. Elections are staggered so that no more than four new council members are elected in any one election.

City Council holds two regular meetings each month on the first and third Thursday. Meetings are held in the council chambers in the Municipal Building, 2039 Sycamore Avenue.  Meetings begin at 6 pm unless otherwise advertised.

There are many committees, boards and commissions working under the City Council, many of which are staffed by Citizen Volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering for your community, you are encouraged to submit your name to the Council by clicking the Board Application link below.

To Be Added To The City Council Agenda

From time to time Citizens may wish to come before the City Council with a concern or topic they would like the Council to consider.  The process for that is as follows:

• On the Monday before the Council meeting, call City Hall at 540-261-8601 and request to be placed on the agenda.

• State the purpose of addressing the Council.  Speakers are limited to three (3) minutes.

• Additional information or comments beyond the three minutes may be submitted in writing.

• Provide your name, address and phone number.
