The Buena Vista Police Department is seeking applicants interested in a rewarding career in professional law enforcement. Officers are responsible for the enforcement of laws and ordinances pursuant to the City, State, and Federal Governments, as well as providing assistance to the public. Officers are subjected to hazardous and life threatening situations and must maintain an effective working relationship with the public and other employees.
Officers shall perform general duty police work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances of the City and Commonwealth of Virginia. Additionally, officers will patrol designated areas of the City to preserve law and order and to prevent and discover the commission of crime, to direct traffic, and to enforce motor vehicle laws. As directed, they will answer calls and complaints involving suspicious and criminal activities, domestic disputes, and other related citizen requests for service. Each officer shall be responsible for maintaining records, reports and all other duties as assigned.

· High school graduate or GED certification
· Must be 21 years of age;
· Possess a valid Virginia driver’s license;
· Must be a citizen of the United States, or possess permanent resident status as granted by the I.N.S;
No convictions of felonies or crimes involving moral turpitude or domestic violence;
Must not have been released or discharged under dishonorable conditions from any U.S. Military Services.

Administrative Assistant/Buena Vista Police Department
Salary Hiring Range: DOQ (+) benefits. (Pop. 6,500)
The Administrative Assistant reports directly to the Chief of Police.
The ideal candidate will have managerial and administrative experience and assist the Chief of Police and officers as needed, answer phones, assist citizens, perform related work as required. The ideal candidate will be responsible for general clerical duties for the 16 officer police department. Preparing and coordinating agendas, work schedules, department accreditation, attend meetings, must be proficient with a personal computer and in Microsoft Word and Excel, must have knowledge of general office practices and procedures and ability to communicate both orally and in writing. This position deals with confidential and sensitive information. Discretion is required.

Water and Sewer Worker
Position: Located with the Water and Sewer department. Duties include distribution fieldwork for water and sewer systems, pump and valve maintenance, and other distribution activities. Snow removal in season. Other Public Works duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Working knowledge of common practices for water and sewer distribution systems, ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions; ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions; dependability; physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position. Ability to operate distribution related equipment such as backhoes, compactors, tapping machines etc. Valid CDL class B license. Class IV or better water/sewer license(s) and prior distribution experience preferred. Will train appropriate candidate.
Facilities Maintenance Worker
Position: Located with the facilities department. Participates in the maintenance of City properties. Under limited supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled work to skilled work; and performs other duties as assigned. Work includes: building and, grounds maintenance activities including minor carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and related activities.
Qualifications: Considerable knowledge and competency of the methods, tools, equipment and safety standards utilized in grounds, and facility maintenance. Ability to Troubleshoot and repair minor maintenance problems involving electrical, structural, plumbing, and equipment repair or replacement. Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions; ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions; dependability; physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position. Valid CDL class B license preferred. Other Public Works duties as assigned.
