Know Your Bike Safety

or You May Get a Ticket!

 

PRIVILEGE & RESPONSIBILITY go hand-in-hand! Owning and operating a bicycle, in the City of Buena Vista, is a PRIVILEGE you may have as long as you are a RESPONSIBLE rider!

 

I. TRAFFIC REGULATIONS

• All riders have the rights & duties of a driver of a vehicle.

• Obey all traffic signs & stop lights.

• Obey speed limit signs.

• No reckless driving.

 

II. NUMBER OF PERSONS ON A BICYCLE

No more than for which bicycle is designed & equipped.

 

III. RIDING ON RIGHT SIDE OF STREET

Riders are to be as close as possible to the right side of the street.

 

IV. NO RIDING TWO OR MORE ABREAST IS PERMITTED

 

V. BIKE RIDING IS NOT PERMITTED ON CITY SIDEWALKS

 

VI. HANDLEBARS

No one shall operate a bicycle without at least ONE hand on the handlebars at all times.

 

VII. NO CLINGING TO OTHER VEHICLES WHILE RIDING

 

VIII. LIGHTS ON BICYCLES

Every bicycle, when in use between sunset & sunrise, shall have a headlight on the front & a red reflector on the rear of the bike.

 

IX. NO PLAYING IN THE STREETS OR ON PRIVATE PROPERTY

No roller skates, toys, or other devices on wheels (excluding bikes) shall be used in the street or on private property (Church steps, Bank lots, etc.).

 

X. PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

No parent or guardian of a minor child shall authorize or knowingly permit minor child to violate these laws.
